The Roosevelt Dime was designed by John R. Sinnock. It was
first minted in 1946 and was composed of 90% Silver and 10%
copper. In 1965 the composition was changed to 75% copper,
and 25% nickel in a shell around an inner core of pure copper.

There are three different kinds of Roosevelt Dimes minted by
the US Mint; Business Strike Roosevelt Dimes, Clad Proof
Roosevelt Dimes, and Silver Proof Roosevelt Dimes.

Business Strike Roosevelt Dimes are manufactured by the US
Mint in Philadelphia and Denver for the purpose of enabling
commerce. They are distributed to banks and credit unions
nationwide and are used for spending.

Clad Proof Roosevelt Dimes are minted on high quality
copper-nickel planchets and are struck at least twice. These
coins typically have a mirrored background and cameo
foreground objects (devices), for example the bust of
Roosevelt. Modern Clad Proof Roosevelt Dimes are
manufactured in San Francisco and bear the 's' mint mark.
Clad Proof Roosevelt Dimes are minted primarily for
collectors.

There were no Silver Proof Roosevelt Dimes produced
between 1965 and 1991. The US Mint re-started production of
Silver Proof Roosevelt Dimes in 1992 and they continue until
the present. Silver  Proof Roosevelt Dimes are minted on high
quality Silver planchets and are struck at least twice. These
coins typically have a mirrored background and cameo
foreground objects (devices), for example the bust of
Roosevelt. Modern Silver Proof Roosevelt Dimes are
manufactured in San Francisco and bear the 's' mint mark.
Silver Proof Roosevelt Dimes are minted primarily for
collectors. The 90% Silver content of these coins affords them
a precious metal value in addition to their numismatic value.
